Catherine Stakel: Sculpture Welcome What gives me such great glee, at this stage of my life, is the on-going element of Surprise. Here I am in the midst of one - this site! A seemingly innocent question of son John, a web-master, as to the possibility of adding some recent work to a five year old site (Nativity) elicited this startling result, and reinvigorated my sense of self as a visual artist. In honor of the level of art embodied in the site itself, an expanded concept for its function becomes necessary. Therefore, my hope for this site is that it will evolve into a "meeting place" for family and friends to share visual and writing arts, ideas and opinions - of and about the arts, what constitutes art (and, therefore, who is an artist - some of you already know my take on this one) and links to other sites. The gallery reflects work done during the years 1998-2007, but for one piece, Monk (summer, '96), my first experience with clay and all its seductive and teasing aspects. One never forgets one's first time! May the MUSE be with you!
